ACCEPT
OTHERS AS THEY REALLY ARE
It
is important to Accept others as they really are, and not
as you would
expect them to be. We all are governed by Habits that are
a very vital and
strategic part of our sub-consciousness. Whatever we do in
our everyday life is according to a fixed pattern of Habits,
and those acts happen automatically
without the slightest effort on our part. To change a Habit
needs great effort,
but to perform any habitual act requires no effort at all.
The
Story of the Scorpion and the Frog
There
is this great ancient tale about the Scorpion and the Frog
which
demonstrates the habitual acts in a simple manner. Once a
Scorpion set out
on a journey to explore the Universe beyond his birth place.
After travelling
for days and enjoying the different locales, he came across
a river, and it
seemed he could not go any further He was about to return
back when he
saw a Frog jumping and swimming with delight in the beautiful
river. After
thinking a great deal about what to do next, he requested
the Frog to give
him a ride on his back and take him across, so he could explore
the amazing
Universe a little more. The Frog hesitated as he feared the
Scorpion would
sting him, but he was told nothing of that sort would happen.
The Scorpion
assured him that he knows both of them would drown and die
if he did that,
so why would he even think of such a horrific act and be the
cause of his own
death.
The
Scorpion enacted His Habitual Act
After
the Frog agreed to give the Scorpion a ride across the river,
he put
him on his back and began moving cautiously toward the other
end, keeping
in mind the safety of his passenger. They had almost reached
the end when
the Frog felt a sharp pain and began to lose consciousness.
When he asked
his passenger what had he done, the Scorpion replied, well
- my Brother, I
couldn't help myself and just did what I know best, and this
is a Habit that
is deeply ingrained in me. And, both of them drowned.
Accept
Others As they Really Are and Protect your Self
Just
like the Scorpion, how many times have you helped people,
but then
they took you for a ride and drowned you in the process? How
many times
have you confided in a close friend or fellow worker, and
found your story
was transported all over. As a matter of fact, it is not their
fault really, they
just acted in line with their Habitual patterns. Always remember
one great
Universal truth - Nothing happens to you for which you are
not the cause. It
is extremely important that you protect your Self by closely
observing people
around you and their Habitual patterns of conducting themselves.
Once you
are familiar with their nature, simply accept them as they
really are, and not
what you expect them to be. If you confide in a gossiper and
trust him or her
to keep your story a secret, or loan funds to a person who
has a habit of
never paying back, then you are at fault.
Let
me ask you - would you expect a Doctor to act like a Patient
and a
Patient to act like a Doctor? It certainly is good common
sense not to expect
such a thing. Then how can you expect a Gossiper to act like
a quiet reserved
person who hardly utters a word, or a person who never pays
back loans to act like a Donor who donates money left and
right.
It
is a great Universal Law that you cannot change others, so
why not accept
them as they are. The only person you can possibly change
is YOU. So if you
have a habit of not accepting others as they really are and
then getting hurt
in the process with their behavior time and time again, then
it certainly would
make good common sense to change your habit and start accepting
others as
they really are.
